IT'S funny how many pro-casino people tell those against them to just stay away. Don't we live here too? Do we not have rights?
TO quote a previous comment, "If Cape Girardeau doesn't get a casino, those who gamble will continue to take their money somewhere else." Please allow me to fix this comment: "If Cape Girardeau does get a casino, the money from those who gamble will continue to go somewhere else -- the bank accounts of outsiders -- and Cape Girardeau County will see absolutely no benefit whatsoever." The only way you will get my vote in favor of a casino is if all of the profit goes back into the community.
I'M all for a casino if a significant chunk of the profit is reinvested in the community as the Oneida Indians of Wisconsin have done. They have completely turned around their community through funding from their casino. What do you say? Ninety percent profit reinvestment into the community, reduce to zero local sales taxes and yearly dividend checks? Are we up for that? Unfortunately, the people who are pushing so hard for the casino are those who stand to make the most money. Privately held casinos are nothing more than a vehicle to redistribute wealth upward to a select few. We've suffered through enough of that over the last decade. Casino peddlers, are you willing to turn 90 percent of your profit over to the county taxpayers so we can all benefit?
TEA party-backed candidates won some huge victories in Tuesday night's primary elections. Congratulations are in order. In general, this is good news for Democrats.
