CAN anyone tell me if years ago there was anything like this year of rain all the time and as much as we've had? I'm 85 years old, and I don't remember anytime ever being like this. IT makes absolutely no sense for the Corps of Engineers to have intentionally blown up a levee on the west side of the Mississippi in Missouri in order to help the city of Cairo which is on the Ohio River and considerably east of Birds Point. ...
Rain history
CAN anyone tell me if years ago there was anything like this year of rain all the time and as much as we've had? I'm 85 years old, and I don't remember anytime ever being like this.
Levee issue
IT makes absolutely no sense for the Corps of Engineers to have intentionally blown up a levee on the west side of the Mississippi in Missouri in order to help the city of Cairo which is on the Ohio River and considerably east of Birds Point. The flood would already have flowed past Cairo before it got to this new breach in the levee.
GOP plan
THE Republican Party will never be satisfied until it gets Medicare and Social Security privatized so poor people can pay twice as much out of their pocketbook to the big insurance companies. The Republicans don't offer a cut in entitlements on the federal employees or the military retirees. It all comes down to Medicare and Social Security.

Mail solicitations
MY mom lived in an apartment complex for senior citizens. I took care of her mail during an extended illness and since she passed away. It is shocking how much mail she got. Piles of it every week, and mostly solicitations from every charity you can possibly imagine. Some are designed to look like mailings from Social Security or other official government entities. If you have a loved one whose eyesight or judgment may be declining, please help them look over their mail or check out the reputations of charities they are considering donating to.
Dutchtown flooding
DUTCHTOWN is just using up taxpayer money. This happens year after year. The people of Southeast Missouri know what happens in the spring and should consider this when buying a home.

Taking credit
I wonder just how the Republican Party is going to lay claim that they are responsible for getting bin Laden. Will it be Trump, Palin? Oh! I know it will be Rush Limbaugh. He has all the answers.
Blowing the levee
WHY is Cairo more important than Missouri homes and families?
Birds Point
BY the time this may be printed it looks like the Corps of Engineers will have blown up the levee protecting thousands of acres of some of the most productive farmland in the country. Millions of unreimbursed dollars lost. Hundreds of lives disrupted. Years of the ground being unfarmed. Shouldn't the corps have reconsidered and flooded Cairo instead?
Careless remarks
A caller stated, "You show me someone that dislikes the tea party people and I'll show you a government check in the wood pile somewhere." Does that include the tens of millions of older adults receiving Social Security and Medicare? Careless remarks like this are why so many dislike the tea party.
Birth certificate
IF President Obama's birth certificate was no big deal, why could he not have shown it when the very first question was raised? Why did it take so long to come up with something that I have to have to get a passport, driver's license, Social Security check and many other things?
Starting over
I recently had the misfortune of driving slowly through Cairo and was amazed at what a civic disaster and eyesore of Illinois it has become. It seemed like a desolate area with barely a person in sight. Best solution would have been to use this flood as a reason to evacuate, flood it, bulldoze it and start over.
Campaign car
I'M asking the Southeast Missourian to name the friends of Peter Kinder that bought him the car. Let's follow the money.
