I want to comment about the widow whose pipe was repaired by Floyd Penny. This man has done great services for a lot of people. He's a real saint. This is the kind of leader we need in Cape Girardeau. He cares about people and goes out of his way to help people like this. How many people have ever done this? This man is a great example to all of our children. I wish we had more people like him. It's just a real pleasure to live in a town where we've got someone of this high moral standard willing to help people.
SUNDAY'S Perspectives column about social justice adequately sums up the idea of social justice from a Christian point of view. However, the cartoon at the bottom of that page misrepresented what Glenn Beck has said. His point of view was expressed in the column, not by the cartoon.
AS an alumnus and parent of children in the Cape Girardeau School District, I was appalled to see our school board president endorsing one of our private schools. This man, while serving on the school board, campaigned against the recent bond issue and on numerous occasions has opposed worthwhile programs within the district. His arrogance toward teachers and administrators is unbelievable. Our teachers and students deserve better than this. If this man wants to represent private schools, he should serve on one of their boards. The next school board meeting is May 17, and I plan to be there.
A big thumbs up for putting the coupons in the Sunday paper. In just one week I've saved $14 on my grocery bill. Being on Social Security, that's a big help. Thank you very much.
Greece is out of money. It doesn't have enough private jobs. Too many people are working for the government. People are rioting. It looks like other European countries are about to go the same route. Now the United States wants to implement European-style socialism with more government takeovers of banks, insurance companies and the health care system. We're going to be more like the Europeans who have run out of money. I think it would be a good idea for us not to emulate Europe.
WHAT happens when you do everything right in putting your recycling/trash bins out only to have a neighbor pull in front of your house and park too close to it? Calling the city, I was informed city workers would move the container this month, but after that it's my problem.
Once again, warm weather has brought a new crop of weeds in the sidewalks along Broadway. Is this part of downtown revitalization?
