Thanks to Southeast Missourian reporter Lindsay Jones for your accurate and informative article about the controversy surrounding having a community named after Andrew Jackson. The fact that your piece provoked a lot a angry responses serves to prove how spot-on it was.
A recent comment in Speak Out stating that 200,000 voters would be "disenfranchised" by voter ID demonstrates how extremist thinking has taken over. Extremists are willing to take any statement made by their party, treat it as fact and then pass it on to others. Missouri has slightly over 4 million voters, over 4.2 million people with a driver's license form of ID. There is no possible way for there to be that number of individuals who can't get an ID. People, learn to think and reason! This is being seen in both parties.
I know there are some people who may question the elimination of the gifted program at Cape Girardeau Central High School. In reality, it only makes financial sense that this program be cut. The expenditure can't be justified based upon the enrollment. Every teacher can be a "gifted teacher." The only thing required would be for the teacher to be more flexible in their course requirements.
Bleak prediction: A significant third-party presidential candidate will emerge. No one candidate will receive a majority of the electoral votes. The election will be then be decided by the House of Representatives. They will pick for president someone who received zero votes in the general election. Civil war will ensue. The bad guys will win.
To all my friends and relatives in the Cape Girardeau area, there is a scam going on trying to get money out of you by "a relative" calling you and saying they're in jail and need money to get out. Then a supposed lawyer working for them calls you and wants you to go to a CVS Pharmacy and get some One Vanilla Visa cards and put money on them. Then because "the lawyer" is so busy, he will call back later and get the numbers off the cards to take to court and pay the court to get my grandson released from jail with a clean record. I called the police and they said this has been the fourth or fifth call they've received like this today.
Since the Rolling Stones have made it clear they don't want Donald Trump playing their music at his campaign rallies, I have a suggestion for another song. It was a very popular '80s song, and I think it is a perfect fit for Donald Trump. The song was recorded by a group called Culture Club featuring one Boy George. The title is "Karma Chameleon."
