Students over athletes
IT'S AN outrage when you have a governor who is proposing millions for sports arenas but cutting university's funds resulting in tuition increases. These young people getting an education are far more important than million-dollar athletes. Future leaders of America are our educated students, not million-dollar athletes.
Median is better
I THINK if we had a median instead of turn lanes, the little girl who was killed just recently might still be alive. With a median, you would realize that you've gone over the lanes and could quickly correct your actions. With turn lanes, you smoothly go across. Sometimes I've been in a turn lane and I've had a car right in front of me. You're both there wanting to turn at the same spot, but you're going opposite directions. I just think a median would clarify a lot of problems. It would be a good thing for Jackson.
Pricing out of market
I SEE SEMO's raising tuition again. They're going to price themselves right out of students by putting fancy buildings ahead of student education. If they keep raising this up, more and more students are going to be going to junior colleges and other places because they just cannot afford to come to SEMO. When are you going to stop putting competition with Washington University and some of the big universities with all their fancy buildings ahead of student education?
Pork-barrel spending
A RECENT caller continued the Republican propaganda that the Democratic Party is the home of tax and spend. A recent nonpartisan survey found that the last fiscal year was the largest amount of pork-barrel spending in history for the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. These bills were also signed by a Republican president. When will Republicans find the courage and honesty to admit that pork-barrel spending occurs in both parties? The question is, who gets the spending?
Court ruling
DON'T WE have a wonderful Supreme Court? They gave the right of one human to abort another human life. Now the court has given the right of filth on the Internet. Of course, we already have the right of filth on every other medium, citing the First Amendment, which it seems is a license to do anything anywhere. The court protects our freedom to become a pagan society. We're almost there.
Bible interpretation
A SPEAK Out caller recently asked why church parking lots were full on Wednesday night and suggested they should have been at the Show Me Center. All believers do not adhere to the pre-tribulation rapture theory of the church as these four preachers at the recent crusade do. Much liberty is taken with Scripture to project these prophecies into the 21st century, such as taking prophecies that were fulfilled in the first century and projecting them 2,000 years ahead. There is much danger to God's churches. Millions of believers buy into this fiction. The book "Left Behind" can easily be disproved with pure human logic. If you really want to know the truth and have the courage to face it, get the book "In Times Fiction" by Gary DeMar and let the Bible interpret itself.
Fix it and sell it
REGARDING THE Glenn House and lack of money for repairs. The group that owns the property must realize the vast majority of citizens don't care about the property. That is why it is hard to raise money. They should sell the house to a responsible party and move on to another project, like the Reynolds House that is boarded and rotting on Main Street. Historical groups in St. Louis buy property, renovate it, show it for a year, then sell it and start over, avoiding expensive maintenance costs.
Facts about Hale
REGARDING THE comment on Nathan Hale. He was not shot by a firing squad. Hale was hanged. Hale did not say, "I regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." He said, "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country." There is a difference.
