We love Roy

I AM a parent of a student at Cape Central Junior High. Our leader and principal, Roy Meredith, often tells his student body that he "loves them." Well Mr. Meredith, we love you too!

Channel outrage

I'M WITH TJ on this one. I couldn't have said it better myself. Let's channel that outrage in the right direction and work toward real justice. "What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

Home run column

TJ GREANEY has hit it out of the park with this column. I hope it is forwarded to the appropriate people who will, if inspired, make a difference in the future of Islam and the sanity on our planet. TJ Greaney WILL save this planet!

Pork is pork

CHAD CRAFT recently derided what he called "liberal pork." When the GOP controlled Congress they collectively became the all time kings of pork. To the best of my recollection, Craft was silent on that phenomenon. Now that the Democrats control Congress Craft seems outraged about pork. This is understandable because "liberal pork" as defined by Craft seems to refer to pork that doesn't come our way.

Punishment required

IN ALL the emotional feelings about the runaway children, it finally should be said: these kids, especially the boy who heartlessly put the telephones where his paraplegic father could not reach them, should be severely punished without sympathy. If they are not, what do you think they will do the next time?

Proud Heckler

I HAVE been sitting on Cherry Hill since the wooden fence was erected in the late 90s. There were only a few of us then. Now there are about 15-20 High Hill Hecklers as well as another 20-100 extra fans depending on the weather. There are always children and pets and everyone has fun and is extremely respectful of the surroundings. I think the complaints have only come from people who have never attended a game, but you're surely welcome to come. After watching SEMO baseball for 17 years, I truly believe we have brought fun, enthusiasm and a lot more fans to SEMO baseball.

A hot day in 1954

HOW CAN a comment be made by a Speak Out Caller complaining that people in Southeast Missouri who don't believe in global warming think they are scientists but then base their "scientific proof" of global warming on a one-day temperature reading on a bank sign? When heat records are broken, then I will believe in global warming. Until then I will understand that yes, it was 80 degrees in March, and yes, it has been 80 degrees in March many times before. In fact, the record for the hottest day in Missouri is in the year 1954. Common sense tells me there would be a hotter day since 1954 if global warming was actually true.

Pet care

THIS IS directed to all the people who don't take care of their pets and is especially directed to the owner of the brown dog on Themis Street. Your dog is chained in the backyard almost all day with no food, no water and no shelter, and due to complete and utter boredom it barks constantly day and night. Do you ever take this dog for a walk or a simple car ride? Do you even love this dog? Why do people insist on getting a pet if they can't or won't commit to all the time and effort it takes to own one?

Lap-Band surgeons?

I WOULD like to know if there are any surgeons in Cape Girardeau that does the Lap-Band surgery.

Hitler and Tojo

HITLER AND Tojo weren't defeated by our military alone, but also by a steadfast home-front.

Cardinal Nation

AT FIRST, I got really fired up when I thought Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson was telling me that I may no longer be able to get the Cardinal games on TV. However, as I read her letter further it eventually soaked into my thick skull that those affected will be folks who live outside what is referred to as the Cardinal market area. Well, guess what? I don't live outside the Cardinal market area. If Cardinal fans who live outside the market area can't afford a DirectTV package needed to get the games and can't stand it, then they can just move to Cape or the surrounding market area. If they do, that would be real proof of their undying loyalty to Cardinal Nation.

Let tax cuts expire

PLEASE, PRESIDENT Bush. I beg and beseech you to allow the tax cuts for the rich to expire by 2010 so that we can get our bright red federal budget back in the black.

Gore propaganda

I AM upset that Al Gore's propaganda film is being shown locally. My main concern is that it is being portrayed as a documentary and not as the fictional self-promoting film that it is.

Whom to condemn?

IT'S A shame that Mr. Greaney chose to take a swipe at CAIR for standing up for the constitutionally protected rights of American Muslims, much in the same way as ADL and the NAACP are looking out for the rights of Jewish Americans and African Americans, respectively. Instead of admitting that there are widespread stereotypes and open acts of racism directed against American Muslims, especially after 9/11, Mr. Greaney criticizes the civil rights group for failing to criticize violence in Iraq perpetrated by Muslims. Surely Mr. Greaney would admit that the violence and bloodbath that have been unleashed in Iraq were brought on by President Bush's government and the Pentagon military establishment. Unless those violent actions are condemned there is no need to ask for an apology from an Islamic civil rights group in America that opposed the invasion in the first place.

Republican sheep

SINCE THERE still exists a fair number of Republicans who gladly buy everything told to them by this administration, I hereby nominate the heap as the new Republican animal.

More the merrier

COLE COUNTY Circuit Judge Richard Callahan threw out one of our laws barring convicted felons from running for office? Maybe now we can vote in more avaricious, unethical, sleazy political employees than we already have.

'Cheap' has a cost

'CHEAP' WHEAT imported from China is not good for America's pets, and imported "cheap" illegal alien labor is not good for America's wage-earners.
