House of cards

I think the government owes Bernie Madoff an apology, because they put him in prison for more than 100 years for a Ponzi scheme, and the government is running the biggest Ponzi scheme the world has ever seen. They're borrowing money to back up the money that they're printing, which is absolutely worthless. And the money that they're borrowing is money that was borrowed to begin with. So, they're building a house of cards, and they're just running a big Ponzi scheme. And that's all it is. And sooner or later it's going to crash, just like all Ponzi schemes.

Where is ACLU?

I was wondering why the ACLU doesn't sue for discrimination, and I'm talking about the discrimination the government does each and every day, when they print literature in Spanish or English, but they don't publish it in any other languages, as far as Japanese or Chinese or anything else. They only discriminate by printing it in Spanish and English. That seems to me [to be] discrimination at the highest, because if they're going to print it in anything besides English, they should print all the languages, not just Spanish.

Employment report

The Bureau of Labor Statistics gives the number of how many people were hired each month. And this newspaper prints an article telling how many people were hired in the previous month. But at the same time some people lost their jobs or retired. Wouldn't it be only fair in the same article to write down how many people were hired and how many people lost their jobs in any particular month? Hey, give us both sides of the story.

Girl Scouts

This is to address the "Girl Scout/abortion" Speak Out. This is absolutely not true. Not even a 1 percent of cookie sales go toward Planned Parenthood. Seventy percent goes to that Girl Scout pack. Thirty percent goes to the bakery. It stays right there. None, not $1 of sales from Girl Scout cookies goes toward abortion. And anyone who believes that should be ashamed of themselves.

Kerry, Purple Heart

This is for the caller who called in about John Kerry showing his Purple Heart to Putin. I just wanted to know since when it was OK to make fun of a Vietnam veteran who fought for this country and, yes, earned two Purple Hearts. I guess it would be a different story if he was a Republican.

SEMO smoke

This is in regards to the "smoking policy" comment that SEMO shouldn't do anything to its smoking policy. The caller states that SEMO is a public institution and cannot regulate its campus like a private company. I'm sorry to inform you, you are incorrect. There are many college and university campuses in the country and the state of Missouri who have totally smoke-free campuses. Therefore, no one can smoke on any university or college property. Just wanted to let you know that you are misinformed in your comments and I, as a nonsmoker, would love to have SEMO be totally smoke free. I'm, tired of walking outdoors and having smokers standing there in a fog of smoke and throwing their cigarette butts all over the walkways as you come into the buildings.

It is not your money

The money you paid into Social Security paid for people already receiving it. The money you are receiving is being paid for by the taxpayers. Many people on Social Security receive a lot more money than they ever paid in. When Social Security began there were people that had only paid in for one month and then received it the rest of their lives.

Exciting sports

Exciting times for Cape's parks and recreation. The basketball playoffs are approaching and the softball season is just around the corner. If you're not a participant, come out and enjoy watching the action at the Shawnee Sports Complex, the Osage Centre or the A.C. Brase Arena Building. You won't be disappointed. Though crowds are increasing, there's usually plenty of seating left.

Jensen, the Obamas

According to an algorithm I developed, columnist Mike Jensen spends 63.21 percent of his time berating Barack and Michelle Obama. One of the first lady's projects has been to convince Americans, particularly the young, to improve their nutritional habits so as to make inroads against the obesity epidemic. Recent statistics have shown success with the younger set as rates of obesity are coming down. However, Jensen recently noted in a column that kids in his neck of the woods are stuffing themselves with Ding Dongs and the like for breakfast. He seemed disturbed by that and yet, given his anti-Michelle mini-manifestos, he must bear some if not all of the responsibility for it.

Air show changes

There have been more off-and-on-again notifications about Cape's air show than there have been changes to Obamacare.
