SHERIFF Rick Walter in Scott County is a true hero. He's one who looks at both sides and makes a person want to do better and makes me proud to be from Scott County. He's such a fair and good-hearted person.
REGARDING the riverboat, which I hope will be coming to Cape Girardeau: The community needs it. It would generate jobs. It would help the community more than it would hurt it. Crime isn't going to get any worse than it is now. There would be more lighting by the riverboat, and it would make the community look better because developers always make the entrances to the casinos look good.
THE Cape Girardeau City Council needs to get with the program on the riverboat and not miss the boat. The boat would be a good tax-revenue draw for the city and for the area.
I'M calling in regard to the Cape Girardeau casino idea. I'm hoping that our mayor will endorse the possibility of a casino in Cape Girardeau. Cape Girardeau will definitely be left out of the big picture without a casino. It would draw many people to Cape Girardeau, and it would also keep many local people in Cape Girardeau.
IT is amazing but not surprising that liberals criticized President Bush constantly about the war against terror, the economy and anything else they could think of. But now since they are in control they look the other way. The wars continue, Guantanamo is still open, the economy is still down. Apparently President Bush had ample reasons for what he did. I can see the news three years from now: "President Obama still trying to save America from the George Bush era." Show some guts, liberals. Socialism is not the answer.
REGARDING children in elementary schools and their poor efforts in classwork: They shouldn't need to be disciplined. They need to be taught self-discipline. I can remember the discipline program when I was in grade school, and it helped me to go on to be a scientist.
HOW many of you remember that when Jay Nixon was running for governor he promised to put all the people that the previous governor cut off Medicaid back on Medicaid? Now Nixon wants to cut the elderly and disabled off in-home care.
THIS is a constructive criticism of the 92 percent of eligible voters who chose not to vote in the last city election. If you don't have more pride and do not care more about our city, then you have given up your right to complain in the future about how officials govern our wonderful city.
WE want to thank the Jackson Coca-Cola employees for picking up trash along South Farmington Road and Route PP. I counted 76 bags.
I believe anti-Obama politicians are the ones who are causing all the problems with health care. If everyone has to pay their fair share, the burden won't all fall on the middle class. The wealthy politicians have good health care and don't have a clue what it's like to go without.
