AREN'T THINGS going to be wonderful after George W. Bush takes office? I can hardly wait. If he can pull it all off, he'll be the first Republican president to do so. I THINK the great seal of the Democrats should say, "In God, welfare, Social Security and whatever else we can get without having to work very hard we trust." He would be the first

AREN'T THINGS going to be wonderful after George W. Bush takes office? I can hardly wait. If he can pull it all off, he'll be the first Republican president to do so.

Democrats' great seal

I THINK the great seal of the Democrats should say, "In God, welfare, Social Security and whatever else we can get without having to work very hard we trust." Their mantra: We're not willing to do what it takes to get ahead, but others should be willing to give us some of theirs. Any group who lets Jesse Jackson speak for it is really on weak footing. Did anyone see the display he put on in front of the Supreme Court? He called Bush (National Guard) a draft dodger. In what branch of service did Jackson and Bill Clinton serve? By the way, how did he get to be a millionaire without having a job? One more thing, did Smart Alec Baldwin ever say where he is going?

He can't do worse

I WANT to say something to the Democrats, who are sour now because Gore lost. I want to say what they told us when Clinton won, "Get over it, and get used to it." After all, Bush cannot do a worse job than Clinton did.

Thanks for clear road

THIS IS to whoever cleaned off the roads on Roth Drive in Scott City during our big snowstorm here. You are my hero. You did a most excellent job. Thank you.

We'll be watching

WE HAVE a Republican president now and a Republican Congress. Let's see if we're better off four years from now.

Memorial trees

IN A recent column, Paul Schnare talked about choosing trees as a memorial for loved ones in Cape and Jackson. The Sunny Village Garden Club in Scott City provides an opportunity for people to choose a tree to place in our Scott City Park as a memorial. A memorial book is kept at the Scott City branch of Riverside Library where names are listed. If anyone is interested, you can contact someone from the garden club or inquire at the library.

You can still help

IT MADE me sad to hear that Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly are not doing well this year. I would say the culprit may be some of these expensive video games. A question for parents: Do you really need to buy your son or daughter a video game that costs $50? It doesn't seem very wise to do that, especially for parents who may have older games that do just about as well. Children do not need the newest things that come out each year, especially when other children are doing without. Please take your children shopping this week and pick up an extra toy, and take your children with you to place a toy in the Toybox in your community, because in the Southeast Missourian it lists the places. Help a child this season, and don't forget the elderly.

Two-faced opinions

IT WAS very interesting to read your editorial on healing in Thursday's paper, and right below it you put a cheap cartoon that points people in the opposite direction. How two-faced can you be?

If you've got money ...

I THOUGHT it was pretty ridiculous the other morning when the college students made the front page of the paper demanding that we keep the Marquette Hotel intact. I think if they've got the money to buy it and remodel it and keep it intact, then so be it. But if they don't, then they need to let the city do with it what they needed to do years ago: tear it down.

Snow in driveway

IT BURNS me up. You pay to have your driveway cleaned, then this joker with a snowplow comes and plows the snow waist high in your driveway and throws all that salt on your lawn. Is the city going to come and put grass seed where they kill your grass?

Landlords should shovel

THIS GOES out to the landlords in the area. Please, don't do like you did last year and not clean your sidewalks and driveways for your tenants. You guys are the pits. You didn't do it last year, and you're already behind this year. It's not fair. You're not considering your tenants. It's really pathetic.
