The party left them

I SEE in the paper that a large number of Missourians are leaving the Democratic Party for the Republican Party. They didn't leave their party. It left them. Thank the good Lord for conservative Democrats who can't stomach what Clinton and company have done to our country.

Spending a lot more

THE FOLLOWING item appeared in the Nov. 24 issue of Human Events, and I thought it was worth repeating for Speak Out: As Congress takes up the task of finishing the fiscal year's appropriation bills, here is what Joe McCutchison, Georgia's most politically active private citizen, wrote to a Republican representative from Georgia and then reprinted in his newsletter. "I am totally disgusted with this big-spending Republican Congress. The Republican Congress took over in 1994 when federal spending was $1.4 trillion with a promise to eliminate some departments of government and cut spending. Six years later federal spending is over $1.8 trillion and growing. And in many cases Congress is spending even more money than requested by President Clinton."

They are patriotic

THIS IS in regards to the Jackson school board member stating that she felt that teen-agers today don't have or understand patriotism. If she would look at the local National Guard units or travel to Fort Leonard Wood or Fort Campbell or anywhere around this country she would find that she was wrong. I would like for her to rethink her opinion.

List top TV programs

I LIKE your Friday Arts and Leisure section and the listing of the previous week's top books, pop records, country records, video sales and movies. I wish you would add one more thing: the top TV programs for the preceding week.

Some good meals

SOME DEMOCRAT commented about Thanksgiving dinner and said if George Bush is elected we might have turnips next year. I remember Richard Nixon. I remember Ronald Reagan. And I remember George H.W. Bush. I had turkey and ham for Thanksgiving dinner under those presidencies.

One Gore is better

ONE GORE is better than two Bushes: Jeb and George W. At least with Al Gore you know what you've got. Honesty for the Bushes seems to be a family heritage such as "Read my lips, no new taxes." George W. Bush does not appear to be any different than his father.

White-collar crime

IT LOOKS like white-collar crime in Florida has climbed to an all-time high under Jeb Bush. I hope if George is in the White House this doesn't happen to the rest of the country.

Instant experts

I READ in Speak Out where many individuals act like they have the lowdown about what's going on down there in Florida. The truth is that I doubt if any of these people know what is happening. They know what the news media report or what someone has told them, but they don't have any first-hand information. Yet they are experts on anything that goes on. This gets a little bit ridiculous. They depend on the news media, and the news media do not always give unbiased reporting.

The winner is Gore

WILL YOU people please get it through your head that George W. Bush is not the president of the United States? Anybody with any sense knows that there was more than mischief going on down there the way he tried and failed at every turn to stop the vote counting. He doesn't want those votes counted because we know who the winner is, and it is Al Gore.
