Up to old tricks

THE REPUBLICANS are up to their old tricks: win by any means even if it means stealing from the citizens. Al Gore clearly won the country and Florida. The Republicans are scared of a recount because they know the thousands of uncounted votes are for Gore. Everything the Republicans do is for their own selfish reasons -- that is, if you belong to the top l percent. In 1993 Bill Clinton and Gore threw out the failed Reagan-Bush budget and installed one of their own that worked. This budget was voted on by all Democrats and not one Republican. Now Bush is talking about going back to it with a tax cut that benefits the top 1 percent and trickle-down economy.

Need help packing?

I SUPPOSE Alec Baldwin is preparing to vacate the country now that Bubba and Al are about to vacate the White House. Didn't he say he would leave the U.S. forever if Dubya won? I wonder which socialist country he'll be moving to. Probably one of the old Soviet-bloc republics. I'm sure they make a lot of movies there. I wonder if he needs any help packing? I'd cash in my 401K to buy Rosie O'Donnell's ticket if she'd go with him.

What's the harm?

IT SEEMS Mayor Al Spradling is not satisfied with his legacy of the destruction of old St. Francis Hospital. Now he just won't quit harping about the Marquette Hotel. A great tornado would probably not have hurt either building. What is the harm in letting the hotel stay just as it is?

Get it right

WHAT IS the hurry? Get this thing right. We want an legitimate president, not an instant president.

Judges should resign

IN RECENT years Supreme Court justices have issued a series of decisions that have boosted states' powers over the federal power of government. But the Democratic Florida Supreme Court overrode the secretary of state, Florida state laws and Florida Legislature. The 1887 federal law says state electors must be chosen by the states themselves. The Florida Supreme Court overrode Florida state law as well as the federal law. There was complete bias by those six Democrats on that state's Supreme Court. They should all be forced to resign for violating the U.S. Constitution and federal law.

A pathetic joke

I GUARANTEE you if the roles were reversed and Gore had been announced the winner in Florida, he would already be moving to the White House interim office. This is a joke. This is pathetic

Getting around law

NOWADAYS WE don't have the rule of law. It is the rule of getting around the law as we have seen in the last few years. Right is wrong, and wrong is right. Al Gore has learned well from the trash master.

Taxed to death

HOW CAN the Cape Girardeau School District even be thinking of asking for a tax increase? We are taxed to death now. I will not vote for a tax increase for schools.

Column on target

THERE NEVER was an article more true and perceptive on the election trauma than David Limbaugh's Nov. 29 column. His insight into the motives of these two characters, Al Gore and Joe Lieberman, is right on target. Thrice-confirmed defeat has not convinced Gore. When he said "I'll fight for you" he really meant "I will fight until eternity until I win." Americans elected a man of integrity: George W. Bush, who will save our democracy, our Constitution and our beloved country. God bless America, and keep up the excellent work, David.
