POLITICIANS PRAISE and promise your right to choose. Killing a child which is to be born will be paid for by you when you meet your maker. Your politician can't help you. You can't blame it on your party's platform. Saying abortion and homosexuality is your right by your political party doesn't make it right. They aren't the ones who will judge you. Who will believe so many accept this and reject God's laws?...

The final judge

POLITICIANS PRAISE and promise your right to choose. Killing a child which is to be born will be paid for by you when you meet your maker. Your politician can't help you. You can't blame it on your party's platform. Saying abortion and homosexuality is your right by your political party doesn't make it right. They aren't the ones who will judge you. Who will believe so many accept this and reject God's laws?

Make it illegal

I'D LIKE to respond to the person who said he agrees 100 percent that abortion is preventable, but until all is done to prevent it we should keep abortion safe and legal. Over 130 years ago our country made it illegal to own other human beings. Twenty-eight years ago we gave women the right to own a human being and do with it what she wanted. She can abort her son or daughter. Why did we do that? Rape goes on despite our laws. Should it no longer be a crime, or should we spend tax money to buy the rapist a good, clean hotel room in which to commit his crime? After all, he's going to rape people anyway. The only way to decrease abortions is to make it illegal.

Fighting for taxpayers

I'M A city worker, and I'd like to comment on the city's being barred from the River Campus funding. I'm overwhelmed that Jim Drury won the fight against the city and the college. Also, this sends a message to the city that there is someone out there who is going to fight for the rights of the taxpayer.

Christian nation

TO THE caller who claims that America was built on secular principles: Yes, the historical record is clear, but you must go back further for a clear view. Regardless of what the liberals say, this nation was founded on Christian principles. Read the writings of the Framers of the Constitution. It's clear what their feelings on the matter were. The Supreme Court made many decisions in favor of religious principles until the 1950s when the justices turned their backs on our principles. Some even thought it was important to put "In God We Trust" on our money. We were once a Christian nation, but it's much easier to be accountable to ourselves than to God. There's no illusion whatsoever in biblical prophecy of end-times regarding America. Could it be that our status collapses under the weight of our self-worship?

It's still murder

ABORTION IS wrong, and if you support it you are supporting murder. If you kill just a fetus, it's not murder at all. If you go out and plan a murder to kill a pregnant mother, you are charged with two murders. What part of "Thou shall not kill" don't you understand?

It's good pay

I WOULD like to respond to the nurses who think they're underpaid and overworked. From what I've seen, the nurses are paid well for what they do or don't do. Most just sit at the desk reading newspapers and eating doughnuts and ordering techs around and very rarely get out of their chairs unless it's to take a 15-minute smoke break. Most nurses volunteer for the 16-hour shift so they can get more days off. As far as the pay, St. Louis pays higher, but there's also a higher cost of living there. I think $15 an hour is pretty good for someone to spend most of their time sitting behind a desk.

Unbelievable grief

I'M WATCHING the funeral for the five children murdered by their mother in Houston. It's the first time in my entire life I'm 71 years old that I've seen a mother kill her five children and a father who is grieving and chewing gum at the same time at the funeral. Unbelievable.

Other needs first

MAYOR SPRADLING better drop his part on the River Campus project. There's no way he'll ever get voters to spend money on that campus project. This city needs tornado alarms and other things worse than a River Campus.

Spend on cooling

ON THE River Campus: If the city has money to spend on the River Campus project, it seems it would be better spent on helping Central High School get their air conditioning after all these years. I love the River Campus idea, but can't they just restore the old seminary back to its original form.

He benefits too

I CONTINUE to be amazed that Jim Drury seems to want to make decisions for our city and our university. Whenever Southeast hosts any kind of event in our city, Drury makes money from these visitors. I am sure he is not against all the motels and restaurants he owns being filled during homecoming week and all the other large events SEMO brings to our city. It seems Drury should take a step back and realize how much money his businesses receive from the numerous events that draw hundreds of visitors to our city. This isn't the first time he has attempted to make decisions for our town and university.

Town is eyesore

I LIVE in McClure, Ill. I was wondering if anyone else here think it's becoming an eyesore. How many more beat-up old trailers can one small town stand?

Need experience

THIS IS in response to the article that says Jay Knudtson may run for mayor. The voters want term limits for local elected officials so we can have fresh faces with new ideas and approaches to our city's problems. Evidently Mayor Al Spradling wants to continue controlling things so much that he is willing to support someone who has never served as councilman. Wouldn't our city be better off if someone who has been a councilman were elected? I suggest that Melvin Gateley or Butch Eggimann run.

Bathtub licensing?

IF THE lady in Texas who murdered her five children had done so with a gun, there would be repeated calls for more legislation to stop guns. But since she didn't, I have not heard anybody call for the next logical extension. Why not have a background check and five-day waiting period for bathtubs?
