Prescription refills

MAYBE THERE'S a reason, but I sure don't know what it is. Prescriptions are usually written for 30 days at a time, even for drugs that are taken regularly. In my case, I have been taking the same three drugs for over 10 years. I usually see my doctor twice a year. It wasn't until five years ago when I moved that my new doctor said he could give me prescriptions that require refills every 90 days. As one who went to many packaging shows, I'm sure these drugs could be packaged so they would last for 90 days, and this would not require the hand recounting and all the pharmacy would have to do is put a label on the prepackaged container.

Ready for new topic

I LOVE to read how Alan Journet is still arguing about global warming. Can't we get on to a new subject? Why can't we talk about something important like tax cuts? He still wants to argue that global warming is happening. Come on, there's scientific evidence on both sides.

Living in glass house

YOU REPUBLICANS live in a glass house. You try to say that the Democrats ran false advertising. What about the commercial where George Bush said, "Hold on to your wallets." They say they want affordable health care, but they never have told us what affordable health care is for senior citizens. They tried to accuse the Democrats of Medi-scare. They haven't proven any Mediscare. Everything the Democrats tell the senior citizens about Republicans turns out true.

Like melting ice cubes

SPEAKING OF hot-air emissions, I read Alan Journet's letter claiming the scientific community has accepted global warming as settled science. However, James Hanson, one of the original formers of the global-warming theory, admits the forces that drive long-term climate change are not known with any accuracy to define future climate change. Atmospheric scientist Fred Singert claims evidence against the global-warming trend is overwhelming and that atmospheric science is still in its infancy and is, at best, poorly understood. Last but not least is my favorite from an unknown writer responding to reporters that the North Pole was melting and would flood Florida and New York. This writer states that the North Pole floats on the Arctic Ocean. If it melted, it wouldn't be any different than ice cubes melting in a glass of tea. The glass doesn't run over, thus no sea level change either.

Messing with checks

PRESIDENT BUSH wants to mess with our Social Security checks. It won't bother me, but it will my children. Government officials don't have to worry because they don't have to pay Social Security, so they don't care whether we get it or not.

Part-time job now

AS A Jackson School District resident and employee. When an employee retires from a full-time food-service position, it is only offered as a part-time job. The part-time employees get no benefits, no holiday pay, nothing. Is that cutting corners, or is that cheating.

Crack down on liquor

I AGREE with the Speak Out about no lawsuits for drinking. There are more people killed on our highways every day, every month, every year thousands. People ought to crack down on that. I think it's getting better because we're really watching people. Alcohol is one of the biggest things in the United States that not only kills people in other vehicles, but kills yourself also. I think they should crack down on liquor as much as they do cigarettes.

Good use of technology

IF WE have the wherewithal to afford a viable space-based missile-defense system, then surely the technology exists whereby downtown Cape can end its woes in one fell swoop by constructing a retractable floodwall.

New laws negate the old

The morals and laws stated in the New Testament are much simpler and much more universal to the world we live in, and they essentially negate the Old Testament. My concern is that too many Christians put their faith in "eye for an eye" instead of the true Christian "love one another."
