I WAS watching the city council meeting. It was the most disgraceful thing I've ever seen when Michael Pryor, the Taste Lounge owner, would not stand at the invocation and the pledge of allegiance. I think the city council members who voted for his license should be ashamed of themselves. I hope when the license comes due in June they will vote him down. He does not have the right to be disrespectful not only for the prayer to our God, but to the flag.
THE UNITED STATES must become as independent as possible in its energy production. Our country needs all its resources available to become energy independent from OPEC and the Arab nations. Why should the United States be at the mercy of foreign nations when our country has the advanced technology to handle our energy needs? President Bush will release America from foreign domination in our energy needs. It's about time we finally have a leader who puts America first.
IT MAKES my blood boil to see Michael Pryor wouldn't even salute the flag at the council meeting. If it wasn't for that flag, he wouldn't have the right to have a business in the United States. They should take his license for that very reason. I sure wish there was a law about it.
I'M CALLING in regard to the grandmother who called in about the girl in Jackson and the baby. She said she didn't know why it was always the girl who pays the price and the boy who walks free. Well, the boy didn't do anything. The boy wasn't involved in burying the dead. The boy was involved in getting her pregnant, but that isn't why she is in juvenile custody. She isn't there because she got pregnant. If that were the case, there would be a lot more kids over there.
I WATCHED the city council meeting on TV. On the agenda was a liquor license for a local establishment with a history a violence. Those conservative, family-value council members voted to keep this problem drinking establishment open. The liberal Tom Neumeyer and the true conservative member voted to shut it down. These two also raised the issue with the owner when he failed to rise for the pledge of allegiance. Who's really protecting our family values and our community now? Those conservatives that voted to keep it open, or Neumeyer and Frank Stoffregen?
I WOULD like to know why George W. Bush is allowing berets for the U.S. Army to be made in China when we have people in this country losing their jobs. This is work that would go to low-income people. We need that work in this country, and he's the only one who has the power to reverse the decision.
I THINK they should suspend the Taste's liquor license for three months, and then maybe things would settle down. People can go out without drinking and smoking. It doesn't take all that to have a good time.
I THINK I figured out what's wrong with the roundabout. It's probably the same person who's in charge with setting the stoplights in Cape Girardeau, making it virtually impossible to drive through the city without having to stop numerous times. Please, could somebody put the lights on timers so we could have smooth traffic flow?
