Misconduct charges

AFTER reading the judge's comments in the terrible miscarriage of justice in the Joshua Kezer murder case, I think it is incumbent on the system to charge Kenny Hulshof with prosecutorial misconduct.

The growth years

DAVID Broder has forgotten the reason for the expansion during the Clinton years. He suggests that the late 1990s economic growth and years of prosperity were due to the huge 1993 Clinton tax increase and budget pushed through without a single Republican vote. If you remember, Congress was controlled by Democrats at the time, and they love tax increases. The economy grew at a modest rate from 1993 through 1996 even though we were coming out of a mild recession and it should have grown much faster. In the 1996 election, Republicans made a sweep. Newt Gingrich and gang were able to push through a major tax cut and other major budget proposals like a balanced budget. President Clinton reluctantly signed the bill and said it would not work. He washed his hands of it. Guess what? The economy took off in the late 1990s, and Clinton took the credit just like he did for anything that succeeded. I guess Broder is suggesting a tax increase is what we need now to help jump-start the economy. I think he has lost touch with reality.

Stolen pet

MY heart goes out to all those who have missing pets. Our beloved pet has been stolen. A thief came in the night under the cover of darkness. I have done everything I can think of to find her, but to no avail. I want to warn others about dogs that are stolen to be used for medical research. This will continue until there are stricter laws. These animals are not just our pets. They become members of our families. We arrest people for stealing a car, but that car doesn't have feelings like these precious animals do.

Stolen dog

THIS is to the person who took our dog. There's a little girl who has cried herself to sleep every night since she has been gone. She was a friendly and lovable dog. If you have a heart, you will bring her back and drop her off by our house. Please, I'm begging you. This little girl doesn't understand why.

Inferior products

THIS is to the person who would love to buy American-made products but thinks as long as the unions are calling the shots we will continue down the same path we are on. The truth is we enjoy buying inferior-made products. Stop blaming the unions. Take some of the blame yourself for buying foreign-made, inferior-made products.

Finance lesson

WHEN things get a little bit tight at our house financially, there are a few things we don't do. We don't spend more money. That would never get us out of debt or take care of us financially. We cut back. We do not ask people with more money to help us out, and we don't go to our employers and ask them for more money. They would laugh us right out of the office. Are you taking notes, President Obama?

Subdivision streets

I believe there are places in subdivisions conducive to children playing in the road. They are cul-de-sacs. There would be no reason for anyone going fast in a cul-de-sac. Parents who buy a house on a main thoroughfare through a subdivision should keep their children in the yard or in a park. Still, people need to acknowledge they're in a subdivision and not on a highway. They need to be respectful. This is a place where people live and enjoy life.

No nationalization

TODAY we hear that Japan's economy is in trouble. Nationalizing the banking system doesn't seem to be the answer to Japan's problem. We should leave our banking system as it is.

Chaffee housing

I'VE read about Schultz School in Cape Girardeau being turned into apartments for low-income people. Has anyone at Chaffee thought about the potential of the old hospital that's been vacant for years? It could be turned into senior housing, which is needed in the community. Not everyone needs to be in a nursing home.

Final argument

KENNY Hulshof, while prosecuting Joshua Kezer, told the jury in his final argument that there was blood on Kezer's jacket that tied him to the crime. At the time, Hulshof had a lab report in his pocket showing that the stains on the jacket were vegetable juice. Hulshof should be disbarred. Why isn't the Missouri Supreme Court taking action?
