I wish to publicly thank the ethical couple who found my wallet with cash and credit cards in the Walmart parking lot on Feb. 9. I live well out of town and they waited more than 30 minutes late at night in the rain to return it and would not accept compensation. Too often we read of only immoral behavior. I believe there are far more unreported incidents of love and kindness as portrayed by this couple. Thank you and may God bless your family.
We want to thank the person who paid for ice cream for us at the Jackson Dairy Queen. That was so kind of you and we appreciate it so much. May God bless you abundantly,
At the times when anything is acceptable and nothing means anything, it's comforting to know honor is still alive in the county. Thank you, Sheriff Jordan.
I wish someone would tell Obama he was elected president, not God.
Our city leaders are clamoring and have exhausted efforts on how to spend casino money they anticipate receiving. The biggest reward would be to safeguard the safety of the car drivers in the city by highlighting with a lot better paint on William Street by the mall from Kingshighway to the interstate. On rainy nights it's hard to see the dividing lanes. I'm scared on these streets, as are many I have talked with. I implore you to help everyone. These roads are used by everyone going in and out of Cape. There are towns in Illinois that are lit like Christmas trees.
I noticed President Obama flew to North Carolina the morning after giving the State of the Union address. He's already up and going on our time. If he spent even a little bit of the time trying to get along with Congress as he does going around the country, and he's not even going to run again, our country would be in much better shape.
Maybe Congress can get together and have Boehner step down. It seems like he doesn't want to get along with anyone, Republicans or Democrats. It seems like all he wants to do is stir up problems for Congress. I think Congress could get things done if he wasn't such a big problem. I think he needs to step down.
I just finished reading Michael Jensen's editorial about America's culture of violence and how that is the problem. A lot of the Speak Out comments are about how we need to keep our children safe by either using guns, banning guns or posting policemen in schools. I turned the page and saw a picture of people marching in Washington D.C. holding signs saying "Keep abortion legal," "Keep the killing of unborn children legal." Could there be some kind of connection?
Looking at the front page of the paper, the first thing I see is a big picture and article on the Republican candidate for the 8th District. President Obama gave his State of the Union address the night before and got a small picture and article on the side of the page. I can sure tell which side this paper leans.
The Star Spangled Banner. Did you see and hear the rendition on the Super Bowl? The girl who sang it at the Super Bowl is no doubt excellent in her own style, but she butchered it. I would like to see a law that states when the Star Spangled Banner is sung at a large public event it should be sung as written.
In the recent news story, Sheriff Jordan said he would not enforce new executive orders on gun control in the county. He cited the Constitution he was sworn to uphold. I would like to know if Sheriff Jordan can point out the article and section of the Constitution he is supporting that gives him the authority to say what laws and directives are constitutional and what he has to obey. It would be nice of him to do that.
I just completed reading the article about fewer people visiting the casino in January. That is no surprise. First of all, you have people after the holidays tightening up their spending, and, secondly, the casinos make very little concessions. That has to do with expenses, promotions and keeping their winnings minimal in the first quarter of the year. They need to see their profits grow, but staying away is the best thing to do.
