** Gone Girl stories

Additional "Gone Girl" stories in the Southeast Missourian, be gone!

** Vaccination

Playing politics with the categorically imperative need for measles vaccinations is noxious, vacuous and vile.

** Worker bill

Missouri's push for right to work law: I know what those conditions are. In the late '50s I worked for a company working 51 hours a week making $51 a week. No overtime, no vacation, no health insurance, nothing else. I then went to a company that was union. I started at $1.56 an hour with overtime, health insurance, vacation and a pension plan. Yes, the right to work law will benefit the companies and the wealthy. Will do nothing for the working people but put them deeper in the hole of poverty.

** Highlighted problem

Thank you, Erin Ragan, for your article about an abysmal traffic congestion problem in Cape. It has led to a flood of social media complaints that have surely gone viral and could result in awakening an apparently-asleep-at-the-wheel city council into taking quick steps to alleviate one or more intolerable traffic problems.

** Jensen song

As Neil Young might sing in reference to Mike Jensen's recent plaint, "Mike's still looking for a prez of gold. And he's gettin' old."

** Tax cut

As a general rule, Washington Republican legislators demand offsetting spending cuts for increased spending in another area, except when it comes to tax cuts. In that case, they are more than happy to irresponsibly increase the federal deficit.

** City street

When will Cape Girardeau street department learn that you can't fix a pothole with a speed bump! Clark Street alone is enough of a cry for help. You need an SUV just to go to the library. Maybe Bingo World could have an event; it's always packed!

** Franklin statue

Please stop reporting Ben Franklin as missing to Speak Out. Mr. Franklin has been refurbished and has found a nice, warm, protected home inside the new Cape Girardeau Public Schools Franklin Elementary entry. Ben is quite happy greeting students in the morning and sending them off at the end of their school day.

** Price fluctuation

I would like to comment on the gas stations in the Cape and Jackson area, how they raise and lower the gas. It seems like when they lower it, they lower it a penny at a time. And it takes forever to move like 10 cents. Well, it went up in one day's time from $1.81 to $2.19. That's almost 40 cents overnight. Now how can they go up 40 cents at a jump and come down a penny to two pennies at the most? Now, what is going on?

** Closing Gitmo

If Mr. Obama wants to close Gitmo, the best thing for him to do is to give the detainees to Jordan. That would solve the problem for everyone.
