A place to go

MY FAMILY and I have been going to the Perry Park Center to swim this winter. We live close to Jackson, and the children go to Jackson High School. Whatever happened to Jackson getting a civic center? It would bring in a lot of revenue. I would bet children and adults alike would use it. I know that we use the Farmington water park in the summer, and we also like the Ste. Genevieve water park in the winter. Come on, Jackson, let's get started on an indoor water park with all the other stuff like basketball, library or some kind of theater -- a place for children to go winter or summer.

Liberal slant

ONCE AGAIN the news media distort a story to fit the liberal agenda, and the public eats it up. Republicans did not vote to end debate on the Iraq war. Democrats were the ones wanting to end debate, and Republicans used a perfectly legal tactic that Democrats have used many times to keep it from going to a vote too early. This time the media did not just pick and choose facts to report, they flat-out lied. The national news media need to be held accountable for the way they support one side instead of reporting news in an unbiased fashion as they're supposed to.

Smearing Jetton

HOUSE SPEAKER Rod Jetton has been accused of smearing state Rep. Scott Lipke, but judging from the amount and tone of comments it would appear that our local Republican political machine has been revved up to smear Jetton. Do the elected representatives of the people run the government or the local machine that put Lipke in office? I hope Jetton survives this smear.

Turning your back

ONCE THE Dixie Chicks drank the liberal Kool-Aid and condemned President Bush, America and patriotism, their success in the entertainment industry was guaranteed. How sad that you have to turn your back on your country to make it in music or movies.

Good for Hollywood

GIVING THE Dixie Chicks a Grammy for making music few have heard would make as much sense as giving an Oscar to a movie no one saw. Wait, it's not about the product. It's about the message. If it's bad for America, it's good for Hollywood.

Taking responsibility

A RECENT caller asked this question in regarding ice on Route A from Dutchtown: "If someone hits the ice and has a wreck, who will be responsible?" The person driving the vehicle will be for not having his vehicle under control. That is what is wrong with America now. No one takes responsibility for his actions. We do not need another seat-belt law passed. What is next? Having to wear a helmet while walking? Enough government interference.
