Union rep
I'M TIRED of hearing "buy the union label" or "buy a car made in the U.S." Whose wages do you worry about but your own? I have to buy used vehicles because the union has too many benefits and wages put into new cars. The consumer pays for the union benefits. The unions are like a leech on a company that a person with vision started. I've been a member of unions, and I have seen where seniority gives the dumb prestige.
Tree explanation
I'M CALLING regarding the deforestation on the newly acquired land adjacent to Arena Park. A member of the SEMO Fair Board stated that the trees removed did not fit a park setting. which is an amazing statement. Since when are trees not compatible to park setting? I think the fair board owes this community a better explanation or a complete justification of why those mature trees had been destroyed.
What about abortion?
IT'S WONDERFUL to be concerned about horses that are being mistreated and starved and family dogs that aren't taken care of. But we continue to go on our merry way with the murder and slaughter of the innocent unborn happening all the time in the name of abortion. God help us.
Let's build I-66
PETER MEYERS is correct. I-66 has effectively been built from Springfield, Mo., to Dexter, Mo., and even to Sikeston, Mo., because it's U.S. 60. It's already four lanes. It continues all the way to Charleston, Mo. All you have to do is go across the river to Paducah, Ky., and you've got it. If you're trying to make a straight line east and west, it makes sense to keep going east and west from Sikeston to Charleston to Wickliffe to Paducah. There's no reason to go north to Cape Girardeau and through Illinois where there's a national forest. Keep the road east and west. Let's build I-66.
Mishandled cases
I JUST finished reading you three-day series on the Lawless case. Wonderful job. I think many more cases were mishandled. Officials should reopen more than one case. You ought to be applauded for what you've done.
Another case
YOU DID an excellent job on the Lawless case. I'd also like to see you write about Ricky Clay. He is in Potosi prison on death row.
Family-friendly
I'M SO glad we're getting a water park in Cape Girardeau. When we moved to Cape Girardeau a little more than 10 years ago, there was Chuck E. Cheese, Kidzone and the water slide between Cape Girardeau and Jackson. All are now closed. There's not much for families to do. I hope a water park is only the beginning of making Cape Girardeau more family-friendly.
Highway talk
I'M CALLING about the op-ed by Peter Meyers. I noticed with interest that after admitting to eight years of working behind the backs of Cape Girardeau to steal I-66, that he then states that he didn't hear anything about the routing through Cape Girardeau. Could it be that while they were planning to take it away from Cape Girardeau, they didn't include anybody from Cape Girardeau in their discussions? I wonder if they've told their neighboring city of Cairo, Ill., that now Cairo will have to go 30 some miles out of the way to get to Kentucky. Just thought they might ask.
It's a commune
WHY ARE media referring to the polygamist camp in Texas as a "retreat"? A retreat is a peaceful, spiritual, healing place. It has nothing to do whatsoever with sex. You need to call it what it is: a commune.
