Show me the form
IT SEEMS like every day there's another company that wants to be bought out and bailed out of trouble. All we've done is start a snowball effect. When is it going to stop? Where can the working man get a form to send in to the government so he can be bought out for the problems he's going through?
Let art be art
I MAY just be an old lady with not much knowledge, but haven't we spent enough time on this theater thing? You theatergoers with season tickets: I assume you don't wait until your children have seen a questionable movie to find out what it was about. You probably find out all about it first and then tell them they can't see it. Why not do the same with your season-ticket purchases? I'm sure you had access to the name of the play being produced. Why didn't you find out what it was about before you went to see it? So let art be art. Maybe you don't want to see something. Maybe someone else does.
School lunch
I AM a concerned parent. I had lunch at school with my child. To see what those children have on their trays is appalling: a wad of dough for bread, french fries and macaroni with white sauce. That's it. There were no vegetables, no fruits, no meats, And we are paying $2.75 for this. How are out children supposed to grow and function in class?
Financial supplement
PEOPLE ON Social Security need a raise, but Social Security was not created or intended for total financial support when you reach the senior age. It acts as a supplement. I'm on Social Security, not very much at that, and it's rough. We have to do our best and trust God.
School speed zones
MY HUSBAND and I recently purchased a home on Themis Street near an elementary school. I've noticed that the speed limit by the school is 30 mph, whereas the speed limit by the elementary school on Sprigg Street is 20 mph. Is there a reason this isn't consistent? As a parent of children who will eventually be walking to school, I'd like to know.
Misused assistance
I UNDERSTAND the theory behind why the government's trying to help out these companies. My problem with it is we've given them funds and they've put the money in the wrong places. Now they're coming back and wanting the government to help them out some more. I disagree with that. If the American people are in a bind, will the government help them out? No. It's going to help big corporations out so they can keep people working. I understand that. But when these big corporations misuse the funds, that's wrong. I'm upset about it.
Inspirational talks
WHAT A great parish mission held at St. Augustine in Kelso this past week. thank you, Father Oliver, for asking Father Lukefahr, a Vincentian priest living in Perryville. His talks on prayer were inspirational and educational. What a blessing we all received. Thank you again.
Artistic prejudice
TO ALL those using the battle cry of academic freedom and freedom of speech regarding the productions at the university: Would you support a production that condemned homosexuality or a comedy about the Jewish Holocaust or the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. or an Al Jolson-type production that made fun of black people or slavery or a comedy about Mohammed that is offensive to Muslims and degrades the Islamic faith? It seems that the prejudice against Christianity is still the most prominent and accepted form of prejudice in our nation today.
