THE comments about the Cape Rock Drive-Perryville Road traffic don't address the most dangerous problem. Every school day from about 7:30 to 8 a.m. the traffic backs up Perryville, sometimes to the top of the hill. Sometime soon someone who isn't aware of this is going to rear-end a sitting car. It has almost happened to me several times. I have written emails to both the city manager and police chief with no response. All that needs to happen is to assign a traffic officer to direct traffic for about a half-hour on those days. Those responsible for our public safety need to take prevention seriously.
Taxing smokers
WHEN are they going to tax someone other than smokers? It's not going to get anyone to stop. It's just a way to legally steal from an addict.
President lied
IS there any group of people that President Obama hasn't lied to? He hasn't kept his word with his liberal base. He hasn't kept his word with America's business community or with seniors or with the black community or with the Hispanic community or with America's unemployed or even with the middle class, even though he names them in every speech. And he hasn't kept America's word with Israel. Did this inexperienced junior senator think that once he became president that keeping his word was irrelevant?
Save money
YOU people crying about how Social Security is too low, you should have done like I did the last 45 years. I have put a measly $20 a week in an IRA. Now I have almost $250,000 to use in my nice retirement. I can take $1,000 a month for as long as I live and well into my children's future. Start now, and I don't care how old you are. Whether 16 or 60, put something away every single week and you won't be one of those complaining.
Route W
ROUTE W is not wide enough to "share the road" with bike riders. Remember all the money spent to widen and pave? The brains that rule made it wide enough to drive faster but did not widen it enough for bikers, and worse, they added rumble stripes which make it dangerous for bike riders and forces them into vehicle lanes.
Enterprise zones
AN enterprise zone designation for local economic development is just another tiresome phrase for taxpayer subsidies for business, and folks all over the country have had it with all types of welfare, including enterprise zones.
Federalized education
PRESIDENT Obama's wise decision to drop the key provisions of President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act at least put a partial end to Bush's power grab to federalize education.
