CATHY HAS become the most dimwitted cartoon in the newspaper. It used to be something that would address women in the workplace, but now it's just become a fashion thing. I wish the writer could get back to more serious issues of women in the workplace...

CATHY HAS become the most dimwitted cartoon in the newspaper. It used to be something that would address women in the workplace, but now it's just become a fashion thing. I wish the writer could get back to more serious issues of women in the workplace.

Did you know

I'M CALLING about an article in the Oct. 6 paper on page 8A, the "America: Just say neigh." I read this article and it literally made me sick to my stomach. It is just absolutely horrible that they take these innocent animals who were not raised for the purpose of food, they were raised as pets and companions and to just murder them like that and send them overseas so they can eat them.

There's no plan

WELL THE Democrats are at it again, scaring people into voting against Republicans. What is the Democrats' plan to keep Social Security from going under? They don't have one. Same old thing: criticize Republicans for their ideas but never seem to have a good one of their own.

Go back to class

I WAS at the POW/MIA remembrance ceremony in Jackson. I was a teenager during World War II, and I well remember the Korean conflict. How horribly our young men and women suffered who were captured in these wars. The victims of these wars and our other wars, including Vietnam, deserve better treatment than what was shown by the ball teams. Maybe our coaches and players need to go back to the classroom and learn some history so they can have some appreciation of the sacrifices made by our veterans in all our wars.

It's disgusting

IT'S A little bit disgusting when a person writes in your Speak Out that she has two teenage boys, and she'll take them to Canada. What about all those boys who are buried in the American military cemeteries throughout the United States and the world? You can hear them rumble, because they're saying, "My God, she wouldn't even have a home or place to live if it wasn't for our sacrifice."

Get informed

TO THE fool who thinks that America's version of war now is massive bombing campaigns or cruise missiles attacks: Get informed about the military. One can tell he's just a sissy little college student who would never dream of putting on a uniform to serve his country.

Just talk it out

I HAVE an idea for the person who's going to relocate her two teenage sons to Canada for them to avoid the draft. Why doesn't she and her two sons just go over and visit Saddam and just talk about things? I mean, it sounds like this person can solve the problems of the world by just talking.

Hot pursuit

I WAS reading in the paper about the burglary out in Cape Girardeau County. The gentleman was over visiting his father-in-law in view of his house. He goes over there sees the people who are burglarizing his house go out the back door and jump in an automobile, come by, make a swerve at him and go on. He and his father-in-law jumped in a truck and gave pursuit. I guess that's all right, but I think pursuing a car at 90 mph on the county roads is way out of hand. We have speed limits. That man was endangering anyone else's life that they should have happened to meet on that road. I think that man should receive a citation and pay a fine.

Disappointing noise

ABOUT THE POW/MIA walk: I just want to say that I saw the walk to the Jackson Brookside Memorial and was so proud of all the people who participated, from the seniors down to the very young carrying their flags. It was so heartwarming to see these POWs and MIAs are not forgotten. I, too, was disappointed in the noise coming across the field from the ball game. Next time, let's show more respect for these people who fought for our freedom.
