Help with flat tire

I WOULD like to thank Justin Seabaugh for coming to my rescue Sunday when I had a flat tie in the Fruitland area. It was a rainy, nasty day, and he stopped and changed my tire. God bless you, Justin.

Ungrateful people

I SUPPORT donations to the victims of the tsunami, and I support our troops. Now bring our troops home so they can be with their families instead of a bunch of ungrateful people who are constantly trying to kill our troops for helping them.

Move mail faster

I WOULD like to know why it takes a week for the mail to get from Chester, Ill., to Ste. Genevieve, Mo. I can see the city lights of Chester from my back door at night. It takes a half-hour to drive to Chester. Yet mail from Chester takes a week to get here. Someone told me the mail has to go to Cape Girardeau first. What are you folks doing down there? Reading everything before you send it on its way?

Helping others

IN RESPONSE to "Help our victims first": The caller complained that we shouldn't be wasting effort or money on the tsunami victims and that the money should instead be used to help our starving Americans. Do you really know any starving Americans? If someone is starving, it's because he is too proud to ask for assistance. Part of being a Christian society means that we help those in need. We became great by helping those in need.

It's a money matter

STUDENTS GRADUATING at the end of first semester in high school cost the school money in lost funds paid by the state for each student. That's why school boards discourage it by not letting students attend activities and ceremonies such as prom and graduation. It all comes down to money and lost funding. Imagine if half the senior class met all requirements at the end of the first semester. That's a lot of lost income for schools.

Deeper in debt

HOW DO we contribute to tsunami relief with Social Security allegedly in such dire straits? Easy. The government borrows the money. The downside is that we go deeper in debt, but polls show no one cares -- not even the elected politicians.

It's up to residents

LOGIC AND common sense seems to have flown the coop in regard to the complaints about mail carriers not delivering mail during the blizzard. After the snow plows push and pile the snow even higher along the curb, how are the carriers able to get to the mailboxes if the residents don't go out and clear the area around their box? How can the carriers go from house to house if no one clears the walks?

Don't be in a hurry

EARLY GRADUATION is punished by public school systems because funds from the state are based on average daily attendance. Early graduation reduces that number and the funding. Students should slow down, enjoy their high school days and not be so anxious to graduate.

A pat on the back

I'M A member of one of the Cape Girardeau churches that was vandalized, and I would like to acknowledge the good police work by the Cape Girardeau Police Department in the investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects. The police officers were very professional. I'm not sure they're getting the credit they're due.

Put them to work

THE POLICE should be commended for the quick arrests after the destruction of these churches. I hope the judge doesn't send these guys to jail or to the prison. I think they should wash windows and do janitor work for these places and pay for the damage. We shouldn't have to feed them one meal at taxpayers' expense. Keep them here and let them construct instead of destructing.
