Animal treatment

I'M COMPLETELY disgusted with these people from the South that want to brag about their Southern heritage. I have a great-great uncle who was a captain in the Northern army, was captured and taken to Andersonville. When he got out of Andersonville, he weighed 86 pounds. You talk about animal treatment.

Seale is a disgrace

I AM glad to see other people are outraged at Southeast Missouri State University for having former Black Panther Bobby Seale as a guest speaker. Seale is directly responsible for the loss of several young police officers' lives having been cut short in the line of duty. He is a disgrace to the black race and the civil rights movement.

Highway eyesore

HIGHWAY 25 is a disgrace. The litter is taking over. Won't some group do a good deed and rid drivers of this eyesore?

Pick the right time

IT MAY have looked like only a handful of pro-choice protesters along the inaugural parade route. However, there were a lot more than a handful. I don't think it was the appropriate time to protest. I'm pro-choice, but President Bush has already said he would do nothing to change the way things are now as far as a woman's right to choose. So I don't see the point to protesting on a special day like a president's inauguration.

Pay attention

I'VE NOTICED the complaints about that intersection at Lexington Avenue and Kingshighway where there are now two lanes coming across from Mount Auburn Road and all of a sudden one has to merge past the intersection. And there are complaints about the lines not being painted clearly on Mount Auburn. These things are ignored even though they're a definite hazard. All anybody has to do is go sit there in the morning when people are trying to get to work and then in the afternoon on their way home and you can see that both of these situations are creating dangerous traffic situations. Then you look at what Jackson does. Someone calls Speak Out and talks about a situation that's creating a traffic problem, and within days it's been evaluated by police or city officials and it's taken care of. We can't seem to get anything done in Cape Girardeau. Jackson is showing a lot more sense, and I never thought I'd see the day when I say that.

Working together

EVERYONE TALKS about Democrats and Republicans working together. Why is it, then, that week after week the Missourian prints opinions bashing Democrats? David Limbaugh needs to look beyond his political party. He needs to use his brain to find out ways to communicate with the other party. We all know how he feels about Democrats. I am sick of hearing it. Who knows? Together we might find a better answer. We are all human. We don't have labels.

Take the next step

I THINK locking cold medicine up and signing for it is the least we can do to help rid our state of the horrendous problem. Meth affects all of us, from babies to the elderly. I hope all of Missouri will get behind this bill and we can make it a law. It does show great promise.

Contradicting God

ANYTIME WE contradict God's Word, the Bible, or his ways, we are saying know better. Whether it be lying, stealing -- oops, I forgot. The smarter-than-God court ruled the Big Ten out. Well, then, abortion, homosexuality, fornication, co-habiting, divorce, adultery -- oh, sorry, I forgot. Our culture has normalized these sins too. Anyway, there's greed, fraud, embezzlement -- oh, that's right. Very few were prosecuted and none of the shareholders were paid back. So if you don't caught, embezzlement is OK now. I guess that just goes to show how much smarter we are than God. Psalm 14:1 says, "The fool says in his heart, there is no God." Too many of us fools believe God's truth to be a lie. Woe to a nation who calls good evil and evil good.
