David Limbaugh recently wrote that President Obama "laments that we are still a superpower." There's no other way to put it. That is a lie. What President Obama realizes and what Limbaugh and many others can't cope with is the fact that the day will come when the U.S. will be one among many superpowers.
David Limbaugh resorted to the highest order rhetoric possible to try and convince us that the American people don't really like the compromise deal extending the Bush tax cuts and unemployment. Though he failed (70 percent support it), his effort is understandable in the light of the fact that ideologues like Limbaugh deplore compromise and that this one will likely be remembered, as David Broder stated so beautifully stated earlier, President Obama's first step on the road to re-election.
I find it amazing that on the same day my wife and I receive our Social Security statements indicating another year without a cost-of-living raise, that Cape Girardeau County is able to give a cost-of-living raise of 2.5 percent. I wish the Federal Goverbment would use the same statistics. By the way, Cape council is to be congratulated on bringing in a balanced budget.
I believe the extension of unemployment benefits is way off course. This only serves to encourage slothful behavior. There are jobs out there but why go to work when you can sit at home and draw a check from the government or work for cash and then not claim it. These people make as much or more than I do in a 40 hour week.
JOE'S column about Paula Deen's restaurant was interesting. Has anyone else noticed that the women in the world who love us the most tend to feed the worst? When you think of grandma's home cooking or the church ladies potluck, you get way too much sugar and fat. It's time for the maternal women in this country to turn over a new leaf, nutritionally speaking.
I met a good Samaritan this week. My husband and I had gotten our groceries and were ready to go through the register line when I got very ill. So I was going to go to our car. A man came hurrying to me. He asked me, "Why don't you sit here until your husband can get to you? Would you like some water?" He stayed with me until my husband brought our car to the door where he helped get me inside. God bless you and thank you.
