Walking to mailbox

You people who are complaining about having to put up a mailbox at the street have nothing to complain about. We live in a fairly new subdivision, and we never see a letter carrier on our street at all. We have to go down to the corner, a block and a half away, to get our mail from our box. New subdivisions are being built with mailboxes at the end of the block. Thank goodness for e-mail.

Fair warning

A reminder to thugs and thieves: Beware. Cape Meadows will not tolerate it. Management will not back down or shy away. Cape Meadow Residents deserve to live in a safe, peaceful environment. Neighborhood Watch is in effect. We are watching you.

Faster assembly

General Motors pays an average wage of $31.35 per hour. Toyota pays an average of $27 per hour. That's not a huge difference in pay. However, it only takes Toyota an average of 27.9 hours to build a vehicle, versus 34.3 hours for GM. Thanks to GM and its agreement with union bosses, foreign car companies make a better product at a more affordable price.

Setting the standard

I would like to congratulate Leopold School District on its No. 1 rating. There is a lesson to be learned here. The powers that be should use this lesson to implement better schools for our children. All public schools should be able to meet the standards which have been set by this small school. Congratulations, Leopold.

Arrest me, please

If I want to keep my child home from school for no good reason, I will. How many adults have missed work for no good reason? My child works hard while at school and has a part-time job. My child does more in one day than many adults do. If I go to jail for my child's truancy, just think: No car pool, No laundry, My meals would be fixed for me. I'd get to read a book with minimal interruptions. The $300 fine and 15 days in jail would be cheapest mini-vacation I'd ever had.

A better place

Ice storms in Missouri have knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses. Many people are sleeping in shelters to keep warm. I don't hear any stories on about widespread looting in the streets or assaults in the shelters. Maybe Missourians are just better people. After all, we did have two kidnap victims rescued in Kirkwood.

Why Spanish?

If we are a nation of many cultures and peoples, can anyone explain why language links on government Web sites -- the White House, Nancy Pelosi -- have only "en Espanol" as an alternative language link? What about the many others who may only know a little English?

Too many complaints

How can anyone complain about unkept promises in Congress already? I doubt it's the people who voted for the change. Reasonable people understand that change takes time. That's why terms are measured in years. The people complaining about the Democrats already are sore losers and will nitpick every nuance of Congress until 2008. Let's see who complains when President Bush brings out the veto pen.

No rubber stamp

U.S. REP. Jo Ann Emerson a "rubber stamp" for Republicans? That is laughable to everyone who pays attention to politics, especially her husband, the prominent Democrat.

Try it and see

I think everyone at some point should be a police officer. It's clear that everyone else knows how to be one better than those who have stepped up to the plate.
