I have been suffering from a chronic disease most of my life. I would like to thank the people responsible for curing me. I was a Democrat and I thank Obama, Pelosi and Reid first and foremost for bringing me to my senses. Secondly, I thank the mainstream media plus all the liberal-biased cable news programs for all their efforts to promote the aforementioned people. And lastly, I thank the people like Occupy Wall Street and those who think they are owed something for nothing in this great country we live in.
I agree with the caller who encouraged folks to live a disciplined life. It has made my life very rewarding to do just that. For example, regardless of how I may feel at the moment I always feel better later after sometimes forcing myself to submit 16 Speak Out comments.
THIS is how backward this town is: You want to have a bunch of rednecks and hillbillies come in here and shoot the deer, but you will not pass a smoking ban. You are more worried about animals that have been here forever than your own health and your own kid's health.
THE uninformed and emotional comments on the proposed in-town deer hunt are getting out of hand. Relocation of any wild animal is an extremely expensive process. Deer are powerful and aggressive wild animals. You can't just simply round them up and move them like cattle. It takes highly trained personnel with expensive equipment to do it properly and safely. Before they're relocated they have to be thoroughly examined and then quarantined for at least two months to make sure no diseases are being spread. There is no possible way to justify this expense for an animal that is overpopulating everywhere. Besides that, where are you going to move them?
IT'S about time the American Red Cross had a national reorganization. For years I donated blood in two Missouri cities. One of them was served by the Paducah office of the Red Cross and the other by the Cape Girardeau office of the Red Cross. They didn't have the same database. They didn't have the same computers. You had to have different blood donor cards as your ID. Then afterward, the office in Cape Girardeau did not know if you had donated blood in the Paducah office. They were just not working together. It's time to have one national system for the Red Cross.
CHEATERS never win. Winners never cheat.
IF the Jackson mayor's plan goes through, we will then have a new motto: "City of beautiful homes, schools, churches, parks and rock quarries."
I like the signs that the businesses in Jackson are putting out saying, "We believe everybody counts." I was just hoping that our voters in Jackson would take into consideration what that really means and that for the people in Fruitland, we are really taking away their rights out there. It seems to me they, too, really count out there, and we should really be considering that when we go to the ballot box Feb. 7.
I think Legos could be used to construct a model of Wall Street and then allow the students to learn what happens when there is insufficient regulation of the financial system by then letting the students tear down the whole thing.
IT'S the height of hypocrisy when conservatives, who want to cut spending on social programs in the name of smaller government, want to test folks on unemployment for drugs as a way of proving some moral standard. If we're so concerned about poor people wasting their money on drugs, maybe they should start testing for nicotine.
THREE Cape Girardeau children test positive for cocaine. Once again, a strong reason why Cape Girardeau needs a children's home. Who knows the hell these children have endured. What scares me is this might just be the tip of the iceberg.
I think all cellphone use, with the exception of urgent emergency calls, should be banned while driving. I was driving recently and twice there were people not paying any attention to traffic because they were on their phones, and one almost hit me. It's a safety issue, not a personal freedom issue.
