One of the topics brought up by Councilwoman Loretta Schneider at the recent city council retreat was she would favor a citywide smoking ban at least for restaurants.
The voters of Cape Girardeau rejected a proposed smoking ban in bars and restaurants last year. Why bring this issue up again? The voters knew what they were doing when they went to the polls.
Business owners have a choice if they want a smoke-free or smoking environment in their establishment. After all, they are the ones paying the bills and should operate their business as they want to.
There are plenty of smoke-free restaurants in Cape.
If you like the food at a restaurant and the smoking offends you, the simple solution is to get your order to go and enjoy your meal at home.
