On Nov. 11, Veterans Day, Scott County plans to dedicate its updated war memorial to honor those who gave their lives defending America.
The memorial on the lawn at the Scott County Courthouse in Benton currently names only county residents who were killed in combat in World War I. The update will refurbish the previously neglected memorial and will include the names of everyone who has died in the subsequent wars.
That amounts to 125 more names to be added to the original 52.
Organizers have raised $3,500 of the $10,000 needed to perform the work.
Honoring those who have died serving their country is the least the rest of us can do for the families who still mourn their fallen loved ones.
