Even though they had been notified it could happen, Glenn and Rhoda Reeves were surprised when they received a telephone call in late January inviting Rhoda to sit with first lady Laura Bush during President Bush's State of the Union address.
The fact that the phone call came just a matter of hours before the event created quite a stir for the Reeveses, but they didn't let airline tickets, a two-hour drive to the St. Louis airport or time-consuming anti-terrorism safety precautions stand in their way.
The call to have Rhoda in the House chamber during the joint session of Congress was an acknowledgment of her active involvement with the National Federation of Independent Business. The invitation showed the level of interest the Bush administration has in the men and women who work hard to make a go of small businesses all across the nation. Rhoda and Glenn's Horizon Screen Printing in Cape Girardeau is a good example of what enterprising men and women can accomplish through hard work and dedication to providing needed products and services.
An invitation to Washington under these circumstances would be a high honor for anyone in Southeast Missouri.
Congratulations to Glenn and Rhoda for representing us so well.
