Republican woes

Some say if Donald Trump wins the republican nomination, that will be the end of the Republican party. So be it! The Republicans have been misleading people for years. They run on a conservative platform but tax and spend like the others. For evidence look at the City of Cape, Cape Girardeau County, and of course the federal government. (In fairness, the Republican controlled state Legislature has held the line on spending at the state level.)

I'm not saying that it's wrong for government to tax and spend. We expect a lot out of all levels of government. I'm saying it's wrong to be one way when running for office and another way when in office. And that's what a lot of Republicans have been doing for a long time. And that's why Trump is doing so well.

Trump is an egotistical bully who's greatest attraction seems to be that he's not a politician. That's pretty sad. But a lot of Republicans remember being misled by their party many times in the past, so they are leery of career politicians.

The Republican party should have learned its lesson when the Tea Party was formed during the George W. Bush administration. The Tea Party formation was a direct result of dissatisfaction with Republican spending at that time. If Trump wins, maybe the Tea Party will unite with the Libertarians and form a true conservative party. Then we would have the conservatives, the progressives and the trumpets.
