I applaud Mary Kasten's letter to the editor titled "Pray and remember sacrifices" from July 5, for I also am disturbed with the direction our country is taking. In a similar vein of thought, I agree with the writer in Speak Out from July 3, stating that our politicians "have no problems when it comes to legislating immorality."
I would like to quote Walt Whitman: "I say no man has ever yet been half devout enough. None has ever yet adored or worship'd half enough ... I say that the real and permanent grandeur of these States must be their religion. Otherwise there is no real and permanent grandeur; (Nor character, nor life worthy the name without religion, Nor land, nor man, nor woman without religion.)"
I personally affirm that religion fosters morality.
