To the editor:I was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, and this ice storm has made me realize what a great region of the country we live in. I am currently in the Army stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. I drove home this Presidents Day weekend right after the ice storm. The Fort Campbell region got some ice, but nothing like what hit the heartland. I couldn't believe all the downed limbs and trees. It was a mess. My aunt and uncle live in Fruitland, and their yard looked like a war zone. Two days later, thanks to the help of neighbors and family, their yard looks like nothing happened. And I heard so many stories just like that, about how this community came together to help their neighbors and friends get their yards cleaned up. I am not, nor ever have been, ashamed to say that I am from Cape Girardeau.
