A great deal has changed since Mike Keefe spent his first day on the job with the U.S. Postal Service in 1971. He retired at the end of 2006 as Cape Girardeau's postmaster, a job he had held for 20 years. Throughout his career, Keefe was known for his efforts to provide the best service possible.
Today's technology allows worldwide instant communication. But the postal service is still the workhorse delivery method.
Keefe summed up his feelings about mailing letters in today's fast-paced world: "E-mail is fine, cell phones are fine. I have them both, but nothing is more fun than opening up a letter from one of my children saying 'Happy Father's Day' or if you've been sick a letter saying 'Get well soon.'"
We wish Keefe a productive and satisfying retirement. His dedication to good service and timely delivery is a model for all of us, whatever our jobs.
