No kidding: Stevie's Steakburger restaurant on Broadway to reopen April Fool's Day

Stevie's Steakburger, which had closed for the winter months, is reopening Wednesday, owner Steve Majeed said. The fast food restaurant at the corner of Broadway and Frederick Street opened in early September but closed in late November. American Ice Cream at 221 S. Hope St. in Jackson has also recently reopened after closing for the winter.

n Huddle House opens second location: Matt and Robin Goehman have opened their second Huddle House in Southeast Missouri. The restaurant at 3125 E. Jackson Blvd. opened its doors March 16. While the menu is the same as the Cape Girardeau Huddle House, the hours of operation are different. The Jackson location is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, as opposed to the 24-hour operation in Cape Girardeau.

"We're starting off with these hours and then [we[']ll] see what the demand is," said Matt Goehman, who also owns Town House Inn along with the Boulevard Apartments and other properties in Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

Twenty-six full-time and part-time workers are employed at the Jackson Huddle House.

n Physicians Weight Loss System opening Tuesday: Physicians Weight Loss System plans to hold its grand opening Tuesday, complete with an 8:30 a.m. ribbon cutting at its 2131 William St. office. Mary Kinder, who owns the business along with her husband, Steve, said they hope their new business will make the community healthier.

"We're trying to teach them how to eat right and live a healthy life the rest of their lives," Mary Kinder said. "We're trying to impact those in this area with programs designed to customize specific programs for them in order to improve their well-being."

The business will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Dr. James W. Campbell and three nurse practitioners will serve on the staff and offer services that include nutritional and exercise counseling.

• McAlister's rolls out new menu: Patrick Abbott, general manager of McAlister's Deli in Cape Girardeau, said the restaurant will unveil its new menu today. While it will keep many of the same items, the restaurant is adding lemonade, pizzas and paninis. McAlister's is also revamping its "Choose Any Two" offering. Formerly, choices were limited to two soups, a side salad and one of a handful of sandwiches. Now guests will be able to order any half sandwich, soup, spud or salad.

The new menu also includes gluten-free products such as southwestern roasted corn soup, smoked deli turkey and all salad dressings at the restaurant.

n Hair care salon relocates: Michele's Place has moved to 1301 N. Kings­highway, Suite K. While the salon specializes in men's haircuts, it also offer women's haircuts, coloring, highlighting, perms and eyebrow waxing. You can reach the business at 335-2588. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and by appointment on Saturday.

n Habitat update: On Wednesday, the roof and two sides of the Habitat for Humanity home were installed on top of the basement walls at 1640 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. On Thursday, students from Southeast Missouri State University were busy working to finish what they started. The bulk of the 300 volunteers who participated in the two-week effort of constructing the exterior of the home were students from Southeast.

The exterior was built on a parking lot at 920 Broadway. A professional mover transported the sides of the home down Broadway to its destination on North Main Street in two separate trips. T. Robin Cole, president of the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity chapter, called the effort a success.

"They had told us it was not just a campus project and that they had wanted to follow it, but I didn't know they were going to start it the first day," Cole said. "The whole prospect was to get some volunteers, but to get the response we got was incredible."

n Just Babies opens: A care center exclusively for children ages six weeks to 24 months has opened. Located at 6 Girardeau Court Suite 102, Just Babies offers two classrooms for children six weeks to 12 months and two classrooms for children 12 months to 2 years old.

n Jackson Chamber schedules ribbon cutting: Davis Farm Supplies will mark its one-year anniversary Wednesday with a noon ribbon cutting at 5547 U.S. 61. Pam Klaus, an employee at the Perryville, Mo., location, said when the Jackson store opened, it never had a chance to hold a ribbon cutting or grand opening.

"So we decided to hold a one-year anniversary," Klaus said. "We're trying to promote the store and let people know we're here."

In addition to the ribbon cutting, a 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. open house Wednesday will feature specials and representatives from the two main lines it sells, New Holland and Kubota.
