New York was attacked before terrorist activity

It may be of little relevance, but might I correct Gary Rust's column? New York has been attacked many more times than twice. The British attacked the city when it was still New Amsterdam to honor a promise that it be given to the Duke of York. There was no bloodshed in this attack as the Dutch commanding officer was forced to surrender without a fight, but the attack is valid nonetheless. Wall Street is named after a wall that was erected to protect the town from frequent Indian attacks in its earlier days. The wall was, of course, torn down, and a Wall Street was constructed where the wall stood. It may be more correct to say that New York has only been significantly attacked with bloody outcome twice.
