To the editor: The letter from Michael Devaney ("Names create identity confusion") was one of the funniest I have read recently. Rather than have Southeast Missouri State University or Southwest Missouri State University change names, it probably would be less expensive for Missouri taxpayers to pay for remedial reading or geography courses for those in academia who cannot distinguish between the two universities...

The letter from Michael Devaney ("Names create identity confusion") was one of the funniest I have read recently.

Rather than have Southeast Missouri State University or Southwest Missouri State University change names, it probably would be less expensive for Missouri taxpayers to pay for remedial reading or geography courses for those in academia who cannot distinguish between the two universities.

I graduated from Southeast and lived in Springfield, the home of Southwest. I can assure Devaney that most people outside academia know the difference between these universities.
