Teachers at Marble Hill are learning a second language as a way to reach out to one student. About 15 teachers are staying after school to take sign language lessons to better communicate with the district's single deaf student.
In turn, the teachers are practicing with their students so that more children will be able to communicate with the deaf student.
The lessons these teachers are learning are sending an important message to their students: Go the extra step for a friend. Be ready to expand your horizons. You are never too old to learn.
The fact that students and teachers are learning the same lessons at the same time also builds camaraderie and understanding.
These teachers-turned-students deserve a pat on the back for their dedication and enthusiasm.
