LOCAL PICKS FOR SCHOOL POSTS

The Cape Girardeau Board of Education has hired two new principals.

Both men are familiar names in the region. Randy Fidler, principal at Sikeston High School, will become the new high school principal. Gerald Landewee, principal at Immaculate Conception School in Jackson, will take over duties at Jefferson Elementary School.

Last month, the board promoted Bill Biggerstaff, an assistant principal at Central High School, as assistant superintendent.

The board didn't waste much time filling the positions. The principal openings were first advertised in January. Fast action is much easier when qualified people apply.

These administrators are familiar not only with the region, but also with the practices of other area schools. They are also in tune with attitudes of Southeast Missouri, which should help build good community and teacher relations.

It makes sense to choose qualified local people for these positions if the experience is available. These people are known quantities who have performed admirably at their schools.

This kind of grow-your-own attitude benefits everyone.
