To the editor:
On the front page of your Sept. 30 paper was an article about the Missouri Democrats complaining about U.S. Sen. John Ashcroft's renting a contributor list to Linda Tripp. Let me get this straight. This is the same Democratic Party that saw nothing wrong with Al Gore's collecting $5,000 each from Buddhist monks, who had taken vows of poverty, in violation of federal law (or was that law, written by Democrats, only intended to apply to Christian groups giving to Republicans?). Gore claimed he did not know it was a fund-raising event, even though half a dozen memos surfaced later telling him it was and instructing him to get as much money as possible, and this same Democratic Party was silent.
I do not recall this Democratic Party saying anything about the Public Broadcasting Corp.'s (which takes federal tax money) giving its contributor lists to liberal Democrats for fund raising.
Where was this Democratic Party when the Clintons fired innocent workers in the travel office in order to give a lucrative contract to friends, then used the Justice Department to savage the fired workers' reputations? Where were they when some 1,000 FBI files of Republicans were found in the White House when Bill Clinton was renting out the Lincoln Bedroom like it was Motel 6? Where were they when Clinton was selling U.S. defense secrets to the Communist Chinese for campaign contributions, or removing the only source of super-clean coal in the United States from production (Escalate-Steeplechase), leaving the Lippo Group (a major foreign campaign contributor) in control of the rest of the world's supply worth tens of billions of dollars.
Once again, the Democratic Party has proven itself to be a band of two-faced hypocrites that has no base values and will do anything and say anything to achieve its goal, which is nothing more than being in power.
