To the editor:
I recently had the pleasure of spending my long overdo and much-needed vacation in Cape Girardeau. It was a wonderful vacation, and I will cherish the many memories of my time there.
Being from the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, visiting Cape Rock Park and Riverfront Park were highlights of my trip. Looking out over the mighty Mississippi River was a very impressive and humbling experience indeed.
Visits to the majestic countryside en route to Elephant Rock State Park was a real treat. I spent hours in the park in awe of the majestic rocks. I climbed many of the gigantic rocks and reflected on the beauty that surrounded me and just how very blessed I was to be there.
Because of my fascination with history, Fort Davidson and the magnificent covered bridge at Burfordsville and Trail or Tears State Park were a must. I especially enjoyed the covered bridge. The opportunity to see the Otahki Memorial was a real honor for me.
The many sights and sounds of Cape Girardeau were quite nice. I really like the clock looking up the hill toward the courthouse on Main Street from the Riverfront Park area.
I would like to say thanks to my wonderful host, Dwight Powers. It was a wonderful week. Thanks for the most precious memories of such a beautiful place.
Thanks to Darrell, Boo, Jennifer, Kenny, Tammy and Dwight for the delicious chili supper and the nights at the clubs. I'm very grateful and truly thankful for your hospitality, generosity and friendship. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again in 1999.
Thanks to the people of Cape Girardeau for making my vacation there the best ever. I'll forever treasure the grand memories of the Cape.
