To the editor:

Because of the volunteering spirit, Classroom Scouting Adventure Day for special-needs students was a huge success on May 4.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many volunteers and the South Cape County Park employees for making possible the many Scouting activity areas for the 250 Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and their teachers from Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri.

In addition to the countless volunteers who participated, the following people on the 2000 special-needs planning committee worked hard to make our first annual outing so worthwhile: Lil Reynolds, Jerry Ford, Al Spradling III, Marge Engleman, Millie Turner, Gerald Jones, Ernie Eudy, Marvin Proffer and Judy Zakibe.

Also assisting were the following community entities who contributed to the event: Southeast Missouri Gymnastics, National Guard, Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Cape County Disaster Agency, Ameritech, Shriners Club and Clowns, Missouri Conservation Department, Supervalu, Nip Kelley Trucking, KFVS-TV, Southeast Missourian, Cashbook-Journal, McGee Foods Corp. and Cape Girardeau County Public Health Department.
