Two years ago my neighbor behind me advised me to stay home with my then-4-year-old son instead of putting him in preschool. You see, I was worried he would not be as smart as the other children when he started kindergarten if he did not attend preschool. This was good advice. This neighbor is my son's kindergarten teacher. Not only did I get to spend the extra year with my son, but my prayers were answered by giving my son such a wonderful teachers. My son has learned so much this year.

The teacher's name is Sharon Shaw. She sings and dances with her students. You can see the love in her eyes when she gives them a hug. It amazes me that she knows so much about each of her students. Mrs. Shaw doesn't look her age, because she is truly young a heart. She goes out of her way to make our children feel comfortable. My son thought he was going to have Mrs. Shaw next year. When I told him no, he said he would not grow up. Mrs. Shaw will always have a special place in Steven's heart.

This is Teacher Appreciation Week at Alma Schrader School. We parents need to do our part and listen with an open mind when the teacher comes to us about a problem our children may be having. We all need to work together to raise decent children. And, parents, please take some time to volunteer at your child's school. Even an your a month would help.
