To the editor:

According to a Time-CNN poll, 88 percent of Americans support a ban on human cloning. U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon is sponsoring the Human Cloning Prohibition Act. This bill would make all human cloning illegal.

U.S. Rep. Jim Greenwood also is sponsoring a bill that he says would make human cloning illegal. There is one important difference between his bill and Weldon's. The language in Greenwood's bill supposedly would ban "reproductive human cloning" when, in fact, it would allow human cloning for "therapeutic purposes." This is nothing more than clone-and-kill legislation.

Please write your representative about this. In Cape Girardeau, that would be U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson. Ask her to support Weldon's bill. Her address is 326 Cannon Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515.
