The freak redistricting of Southern Illinois in 1991 which politically mistreated us and Congressman Glenn Poshard, D-Marion, will happen again and again to us and ours, and others forever unless we outlaw it.

In 1812, Gov. Gerry of Massachusetts slimed-up a district for a crony. It looked like a salamander, hence "Gerrymander," a pox on good politics since.

Whereas the state fossil is the Tully Monster, a salamander long dead in our past, and whereas the Gerrymander is a relation worthy of equal distinction, I recommend a "Tully Monster Gerrymander" amendment for our constitution as a monument to honor this freak ... and kill it.
