To the editor:

Libertarians are encouraged by the government's own auditors. The General Accounting Office says government could cut $350 billion from the budget by eliminating program duplication, minimizing waste and fraud and implementing more careful results-based management. This savings could come about without reducing the current level of government services. The savings of $350 billion would reduce the need for income taxes by over 50 percent.

Add this savings to the elimination of unnecessary and sometimes harmful programs, including the IRS, and the elimination of the income tax doesn't seem like such a hard pill to swallow for government. Without the income tax, automobiles and other necessities probably would be cheaper, thus raising the standard of living for all Americans who produce and consume. Just think about the possibilities you would have without the income tax to shoulder. If you feel guilty about not turning a quarter of your paycheck over to the wasteful spenders in government, give it to charity.
