To the editor:
There are many dates in American history that are etched in stone: July 4, 1776. Dec. 7, 1941. June 6, 1944. Jan. 22, 1973. You may not remember Jan. 22, 1973, but it also is a date that will live in infamy. It was on that date that the U.S. Supreme Court, in the infamous Roe vs. Wade decision, said that every woman has a constitutional right to abort her unborn baby throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Since the, we have experienced 26 years of tears.
The toll of deaths is incredible. At 4,000 abortion a day, it is estimated that more than 35 million babies have been slaughtered, enough to equal the population of 13 states. Nearly 50 percent of all abortions are now repeats. Since 1973, almost 384,000 elementary schoolteachers were not hired because of abortion. Last June, approximately 640,000 high school diplomas were not handed out because the students in the class of '98 were not there to receive them.
Twenty-six years of tears -- all because of a poorly crated decision based on a nonexistent right though to be a part of the U.S. Constitution. While the Supreme Court justices made their ill-advised decision because they were intimidated by the leftist liberals of certain women's organizations, it was actually an insult to the God of the Bible who, in our great Constitution, guaranteed every American the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Let's not forget on this historical date that the God who raised up this great nation as only an experiment in democracy can also find methods to discipline us when we become perverse and rebellious. Let's trust that God will not be coerced by our rebellious behavior to destroy us in order to raise up a more honorable and obedient nation of people.
