To the editor:
We of the Jackson High School Drama Club regret to hear that someone was dissatisfied with the selection that was performed, "You Can't Take It With You." (I am referring to the Speak Out comment that was published March 16. However, we feel it is our duty to inform the public that this play was performed 10 years ago at Jackson High School and was considered a success. The review of our play was recently published, and might we add that everything that was said was good. This play has also been performed in many colleges and universitites. It has also been a very successful Broadway play. It is considered to be a classical piece of American theater and brings smiles to all types of faces. We also understand that no matter what the selection might have been, some would have found it to be "vulgar."
Even so, we find it was unnecessary for anyone to slander the good name of the director, Joyce Schroeder. She is one of the most upstanding citizens in Jackson. She is also a beloved friend and mentor. To all of her students she is an example of honesty and good moral values.
Whoever is responsible for the criticism in Sepak Out has his or her reasons for not liking the play but isn't proving anything by simply trying to give someone, who is a model we can all look up to, a bad name.
Thank you for your time and for printing this letter. We sincerely hope that whoever is responsible will be reading.
