Keeping the vision

Seven individuals who strive to make Cape Girardeau a better place to live and work were honored last week by the Vision 2020 Community Relations Council.

Their volunteerism ranged from the recent floodwall mural project to radio promotions boasting why Cape Girardeau is a great community to medical missions to coaching youth football.

Awards were presented to Tim Blatner, Dr. Dan Cotner, Meg Davis, Doug Richards, George Foster, Thomas M. Meyer and Jim Watkins.

Each person recognized has made a positive mark on Cape Girardeau and duly deserved the honor.

Their efforts speak well for our community and its willingness to keep working toward improvements.

Hundreds of Cape Girardeau residents regularly volunteer their time and talents for civic organizations, clubs and projects that aim to boost Cape Girardeau's image and appeal as a fine place to live and work.

Vision 2020 is one group that places a high premium on the volunteer efforts that aid the city's growth and development in the 21st century. A strategic plan organized by the group deals with how to promote the arts, community services, economic development, education and transportation.

The group is even considering nominating Cape Girardeau for All-American City honors.

With volunteers and residents like those who were honored last week, it's easy to see why Cape Girardeau appeals to new residents, businesses and civic-minded volunteers.
