Through the years, Judy Wilferth has plowed new ground as a leading Cape Girardeau businesswoman.

This past week, Wilferth was named the 1997 Woman of Achievement by the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau. It is a fitting tribute to a woman who has served Cape Girardeau and the region with distinction for many years.

Wilferth is the owner of Children's Bazaar, Boy's Corner, The Crossroads and Sandy's.

She has been active in the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and St. Francis Medical Center and Foundation. She has been instrumental in numerous community fund-raising efforts, including Osage and Shawnee Park improvements, the Salvation Army and Southeast Missouri State University Foundation.

The list goes on and on.

Zonta's yearly award is an noteworthy way to recognize women of distinction. The club itself performs many community service projects. Members include more than 60 professional and executive women from Cape Girardeau, Scott and Perry counties.

Zonta members make an ongoing commitment to improving the region in their support of more than 25 community organizations. Wilferth certainly embodies the Zonta ideals of dedication to career, family, self-improvement and service to the community, youth, women and church.
